Alumni Dinner Gathering for the Finance Sector

On 13 April, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office of the CUHK Business School held a dinner gathering for senior alumni from the Finance sector at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The gathering aimed at strengthening our alumni network even further.The highlight of the event was an inspiring talk by Mr. Anthony Neoh, former Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and Chief Adviser of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, who spoke on ‘global financial regulatory trends and how they will affect financial institutions and markets in Greater China’. BiG Forum: Proactive Innovation Targeting Key Trends

The Center BiG has invited Ms. Aglaia Kong, Global Vice President of Cisco and CTO for Cisco China, to give a talk titled ‘Proactive Innovation Targeting Key Trends’. Utilising the new BiG Video Bridge facilities, the BiG forum will be broadcast live from the Hong Kong campus to the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute Lecture Theatre on 12 May, allowing participants to watch the event in real-time. Ms. Kong, who is at the forefront of the IT industry, will share her insights on how individuals and businesses can leverage innovation to stay on top of emerging trends and rise to future challenges and opportunities.

Chinese Language Option Added to Alumni Website

Following the addition of the ‘Alumni Privileges’ section in March, we are now adding a Chinese language option to make the alumni website more accessible for Chinese-speaking alumni, particularly those who were enrolled in our Mainland programs. These new initiatives are in line with the Business School’s new directive – to make the website dynamic, professional, modern and responsive to market trends. Both traditional and simplified Chinese versions of the site are now available.

Hong Kong Social Business Challenge is Open for Registration

Want to change the world? The first ‘Hong Kong Social Business Challenge’, co-organised by the CUHK Business School and SOW Asia, is now open for registration. The competition aims to encourage business students to design and implement commercially sustainable solutions to environmental and social concerns. This program will provide incentives, opportunities and tools to assist university students in becoming involved in social innovation. Winners are eligible for investment funds of up to HK$1,000,000. Those alumni who are interested, and have graduated in the last three years, are invited to register for the competition by Friday 11 May.

OneMBA Information Session in Shanghai and Beijing

The OneMBA program is a premier global executive MBA program offered by the CUHK Business School. Participants have the opportunity to travel ‘around the world’ to learn about global business and be part of an international MBA network. The program was ranked 26th among other executive MBA programs by the Financial Times Global Rankings in 2011. The OneMBA program director, Mr. Didier Andre Guillot, will speak about the program during an information session on 5 May in Shanghai and on 6 May in Beijing. On 10 May, the CUHK MBA CSR Conference titled ‘Shifting Today to a Sustainable Tomorrow’ will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Finance Department Achieves Outstanding World Rankings

Recently, the Finance Department, led by Prof. Joseph Cheng, was ranked 18th in the Arizona State University World Finance Department Research Ranking, and 22nd in the University of Texas Dallas World Business School Research Ranking. In both rankings, the Department of Finance achieved the top ranking in Hong Kong and in Asia. Observed Prof. Cheng, “These achievements are recognition of the efforts and dedication of our research team. We will work much harder to make scholarly contributions to research excellence and to reinforce the reputation of the CUHK Business School as one of the world’s leading business schools.”

CUHK Business School’s ‘CONNECT’ Magazine

The new edition of CONNECT magazine (Vol. 4, 2012), produced by the CUHK Business School’s Marketing and Communications Office, has been released with a revised layout. CONNECT aims to highlight the Business School’s work in research and modern business practices as well as to educate on selected business topics. CONNECT articles are written by Business School staff and invited external writers.
