The Distinguished Alumni Dinner Gathering for the
Accounting Sector Sets the Scene for a Professional Network


Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 19 June, the Distinguished Alumni Dinner Gathering for the accounting sector was attended by our distinguished accounting alumni, talented students from the MBA and EMBA programs, as well as the young BBA students from the accounting programs. Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited Mr. Charles Li delivered a thought-provoking speech titled ‘HKEx’s Vision for Leading Hong Kong’s Financial Markets to New Horizons’. During the 30-minute presentation, Mr. Li forecasted the future of Hong Kong as the world’s top financial centre, and its role as the gateway to China.

Global Leader Series Debuts with Resounding Praise

After much anticipation, the inaugural talk for the Global Leader Series kicked off on 15 June in the lecture theatre of the Graduate Law Centre. Sharing her insights and experiences as a successful businesswoman, Mrs. Margaret Leung began the speaker series with a topic titled ‘The Road to Success for Influential Female Leaders in Hong Kong: Obstacles and Opportunities’. The event was a great success, attracting a full house of more than 150 participants including the CUHK Business School’s professors and colleagues, alumni, and postgraduate students. The Global Leader Series is one of the ways through which the Business School connects, engages and communicates with our business alumni.

Alumni Director Florence Lai Reports On
Her Fruitful Shanghai Trip


Ms. Florence Lai, Administrative Director of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, travelled to Shanghai on 24 May with Dean Prof. T. J. Wong to attend the CUHK Business School Shanghai Alumni Association’s monthly gathering. Dean Prof. T. J. Wong gave a riveting 45-minute talk on the development of CUHK and the Business School, as well as the contributions of the Business School to the rise of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in this Asian Century. The monthly gathering is a fantastic opportunity to share the work of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, as well as strengthen the cohesiveness of the alumni association.

New Alumni Birthday eCards


At the CUHK Business School, we make sure no one forgets your birthday. Beginning 1 July, alumni will find the ‘Birthday Stars of the Month’ section on the alumni website, which lists all the alumni born each month. By following a few simple steps, you can identify your friends, select your favourite card, write your message and submit the card to your friend. Each of the four designs is unique, with different colour schemes and themes.

Giving Our Best Wishes to Prof. Lee Kam Hon

Friday 15 June was the last working day of Prof. Lee Kam Hon, Director of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management. We are sad to see Prof. Lee leave us after working at the CUHK Business School for 43 years, but we believe that the bond with him will endure into his retirement with his new title of Emeritus Professor of Marketing. We look forward to his continued support of the Business School through his contribution to research and executive education.

The First Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program
Gets Off to a Good Start


The CU Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program is a core program of the CUHK Alumni Entrepreneur Network, providing a platform through which mentees and mentors exchange intellectual information and networking opportunities. The mentoring program consists of mentors from among CUHK alumni, who provide expert advice to CUHK students and recent graduates seeking to start a company, commercialise technologies and transfer knowledge to the community. The mentoring program’s graduation ceremony was held on 16 June, with the highlight being a presentation from mentees who demonstrated how to use innovation and entrepreneurial knowledge to set up their own businesses.

OneMBA Class 2012 Finishes a Rewarding Asian Week

From 12 to 19 May, the OneMBA Class 2012 attended its final Global Residency – Asian Week. Bringing together 100 participants from the five partner schools, the OneMBA Asian Residency allowed students to discover and reinforce their understanding of the best management practices of two fast growing and dynamic economies in Asia – India and Hong Kong. The unique residency includes keynote speeches from leading academics, business leaders and entrepreneurs, as well as company visits and cultural activities. Participants gained valuable insights into the economic, institutional and social environments of the advanced and emerging economies in Asia.
