Underscores Strength of Alumni Marketing Network


On 27 September 2012, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office held a Distinguished Alumni Dinner Gathering for the marketing sector at the Bauhinia Room of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, hosted by Prof. T. J. Wong, Dean of the CUHK Business School, Prof. Michael Ferguson, Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and MBA Director, and Prof. Jamie Jia, Chairman of the Department of Marketing. In attendance were over 30 senior alumni, all experienced marketing professionals, who shared their industry insights with fellow alumni, professors and our talented corps of students from the MBA, EMBA, MSc and BBA programs. Dr. Allan Zeman, Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Holdings Ltd and Hong Kong Ocean Park, served as our honourable guest speaker.

On-campus Career Forum: Helping Alumni
and Students Chart Successful Career Paths

The Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office will hold the inaugural Career Forum on campus at the Yasumoto International Academic Park on 17 November 2012. Three distinguished guest speakers will be on hand to offer industry-specific advice on finding the perfect job, including Mr. Samson Lee, Managing Director and Head of Debt Capital Markets at BOC International, Mr. Daniel Pinto, Partner at IBM Global Business Services, and Mr. Adrian Tam, Deputy General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Octopus Cards Ltd. A panel discussion and Q&A session will be held to help students chart a successful career path in their industry of choice amidst this ever-changing business landscape. Inspirational Gathering Strengthens Bonds
between Taiwan Alumni and Business School


The Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office's Administrative Director Florence Lai visited Taiwan for the CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association's Annual General Meeting and Annual Dinner on 6 October 2012. Held at the Ambassador Hotel Taipei, the grand affair was attended by about 100 alumni as well as notable guests, some of whom had flown in from Hong Kong and the Mainland especially for the event. While in Taiwan, Florence also had the opportunity to dine in a more personal setting with Taiwan Alumni Association council members and fellow alumni. The trip is fruitful as it served to strengthen the Business School's formidable alumni network, and enabled Florence to connect on a personal level with the dedicated members of the Taiwan Alumni Association team.

MBA Elite Mentorship Program Kick-off
Commences Rewarding Experience for Mentors and Students

Over 100 elite mentors and full-time MBA students gathered at the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui on 4 October 2012 for the MBA Elite Mentorship Program Kick-off. The Elite Mentorship Program is a popular and influential component of the Business School's full-time MBA Program, carefully matching students with mentors recruited from our alumni. This year is especially noteworthy, drawing the largest number of elite mentors in the Elite Mentorship Program's history. The Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and MBA Director Prof. Michael Ferguson led the hosts onstage to toast the guests and encourage students to make the most of this promising opportunity.


Financial Times Ranks OneMBA® 24th in the World
As Program Celebrates 10th Anniversary


Just in time for the Global OneMBA® Program's 10th anniversary, the Financial Times ranked OneMBA 24th among the world's best executive MBA programs, up from 26th in the 2011 rankings. Of particular significance were the criteria for “International Students” and “International Course Experience”, for which OneMBA was ranked 3rd and 10th respectively. The international program was launched ten years ago in September 2002, and today has more than 1,000 alumni in senior positions in over 50 countries around the world. Undergraduate Mentorship Program 2012-2013
Heralds Another Fruitful Year

Almost 100 enthusiastic alumni turned up at the Undergraduate Mentorship Program Kick-off Cocktail on 6 October 2012, keen to mingle with their new mentees for the first time. Speakers at the event included Prof. Dennis Fan, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), who opened the event with encouraging words, as well as Ms. Gabriel Lo, General Manager of IBM's Human Resources Department, who introduced IBM's in-house mentoring program. Mr. Raymond Lo, President of the CUHK Business School BBA Alumni Association, also took the opportunity to present the scholarships sponsored by the alumni association.

Faculty Outstanding Teaching Awards
Demonstrate Our Commitment to Teaching Excellence


The Faculty Forum took place at the Cheng Yu Tung Building on 5 October 2012. Dean Prof. T. J. Wong took the opportunity to update staff on the latest faculty developments, as well as to present the Faculty Outstanding Teaching Awards for the 2010-2011 academic year. The honourees from undergraduate studies were Mr. John Lai from the Department of Management and Mr. Eric Leung from the School of Accountancy, and the honourees from postgraduate studies were Mrs. Suzanne Young from the Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics and Prof. Didier Guillot from the Department of Management. Congratulations to all of the deserving awardees!

State Ministry of Education Approves Planning of
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen)

On 11 October 2012, the State Ministry of Education announced its approval for the planning of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) at a ceremony held on the proposed site in Longgang District, Shenzhen. In attendance were government officials from Guangdong Province and Hong Kong, as well as representatives from CUHK. Instruction of the CUHK (Shenzhen) will be held in both English and Chinese, and programs will be launched in phases, beginning primarily with the science, engineering, economics, management and humanities. It will have a profound impact on the training of top talent and educational reform in China, contributing to the long-term prosperity of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region.
