High-calibre Speech at Golden Jubilee 'Global Leader Series'

The second Global Leader Series talk of this year celebrating CUHK and the Business School's 50th Anniversary will feature Ambassador Stephen M. Young, U.S. Consul General for Hong Kong and Macau, on 6 June at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong. Titled 'Reflections on China as Seen Through the Prism of 33 Years in the U.S. Foreign Service', Ambassador Young's talk will analyse arguably the world's most important bilateral relationship. We are also privileged to welcome the Honourable Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok Sing, President of the Legislative Council, as our guest of honour in this high-profile event. Influential global business leader Mr. John Rice drew on his invaluable experiences as Vice Chairman of General Electric when he delivered an eye-opening talk on doing business in China and practising leadership in the 21st century on 19 March. A charismatic and powerful presence, Mr. Rice riveted a full-house audience of 300, whose ranks included distinguished guests, teaching staff, alumni and students of the CUHK Business School. Prof. Paul Kan Given FUECH Grand Cross of Merit
for Outstanding Consular Work

Prominent Hong Kong-based business leader and distinguished CUHK Business School alumnus Prof. Paul Kan recently received a rarely given Grand Cross of Merit for Outstanding Consular Work for his diplomatic brilliance as Honorary Consul of Hungary in Hong Kong. Presented by the Federation of European Associations of Honorary Consuls (FUECH), the Grand Cross of Merit recognises outstanding service and commitment to the European Union. Only five Grand Crosses have ever been given in the history of the FUECH, and Prof. Kan received his award at an elegant ceremony at the Hungarian Consulate in Hong Kong on 2 April.


Three Alumni Win Two Prestigious Awards
at Hong Kong ICT Awards 2013


Three Business School alumni won the prestigious 'Best Public Service Application Grand Award' and 'Best Public Service (Transformation) Gold Award' at this year's Hong Kong ICT Awards. Singled out for their workplace innovation and creativity, the three work for New World First Bus and Citybus. They are Newton Ng (BBA 1993 & MSc ITM 2003), Frocho Fang (MBA 2008), and Alex Chan (MSc ITM 2012). The judges praised our award-winning alumni for their impressive use of technology to deploy a well-integrated and multifaceted solution addressing fleet management and passenger information. Insightful Talk by Prof. Howard Lam
during Shanghai Alumni Association's AGM

Associate Director of the EMBA Program and distinguished alumnus Prof. Howard Lam shared profound insights on developing business leaders at a monthly dinner gathering of the CUHK Business School Shanghai Alumni Association that coincided with its Annual General Meeting on 11 April. Prof. Lam's lively talk titled 'Tips for Grooming Business Elites: The Stories of McDonald's and Coca-Cola' drew on his wealth of past experience with several award-winning international brands. The evening culminated with the election of the new Executive Committee of the Shanghai Alumni Association.

Report on March's BiG Forum

At the latest BiG Forum held on 23 March at CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute, Mr. Fang Fang, Asia Vice Chairman and CEO of China, J.P. Morgan Investment Banking, spoke on 'Going Out of China: Innovation Mega-Dealmaking Insights and Lessons'. Mr. Fang recalled his central role in various mergers and acquisitions that expanded business beyond China's borders. Following his speech, Prof. Robert Lee, Executive Director of Center BiG, moderated a panel discussion with Mr. Fang and Mr. Xiangyang Yang, Chairman of Shenzhen Resources Investment and Development Co.
