'Complete Professionals' Valued by All

The latest edition of the Career Forum, titled 'Be a Complete Professional through Lifetime Learning', offered brilliant insights on becoming a better professional. Co-organised by the CUHK Business School's Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office and ACCA Hong Kong, the informative event held on 6 July at The Excelsior Hong Kong further celebrated the Business School's 50th Anniversary and was headlined by Ms. Caroline Wan, senior controller at General Electric; Mr. Micky Lo, managing director and head of APAC Information Risk Management at BNY Mellon; and Ms. Jennifer Tan, managing director at Hutchison Global Communications. The high-powered forum culminated in a wide-ranging discussion panel that shared tips on boosting professionalism and employability in a competitive business landscape. Read the report

by U.S. Ambassador Stephen Young Available for Viewing


The latest and successful Global Leader Series event is available for viewing at the 'Multimedia Library' of the Alumni Website. On 6 June, guest speaker U.S. Consul General Stephen Young captivated more than 200 attendees with his 'Reflections on China as Seen Through the Prism of 33 Years in the U.S. Foreign Service'. Held at the InterContinental Grand Stanford, Ambassador Young's talk on U.S.-China relations spurred keen questions from an audience of Hong Kong-based diplomats, distinguished alumni, students and others. The guest of honour, the Honourable Mr. Jasper Tsang, Legislative Council President, delivered a humorous opening address. View the full-version video here.

BBA Talk Marks AGM and
Brings Inspiring Words from Prof. Liu Mingkang
The BBA Alumni Association held its Annual General Meeting on 4 July, followed by a talk by guest speaker Prof. Liu Mingkang, ex-Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, who analysed the Mainland's economic opportunities and challenges. Now a distinguished research fellow at CUHK, Prof. Liu is also a passionate artist and during his talk shared his views on the arts. Prof. Liu said 'sustainability' in all matters is important, as are principles of responsibility and civilisation. The dynamic evening also revealed the latest election results of the BBA Alumni Association board, of which Mr. Raymond Lo was re-elected President.

Insights into China's Entrepreneurial Environment and
Luxury Brand Market

Apart from possessing a strong drive to break new commercial ground, entrepreneurs often rely on a support framework to get the capital and level playing field they need to establish and grow their business. But the institutions that would help them succeed are sorely lacking in Mainland China. What lies ahead for entrepreneurship there? "The Big Picture Question" is a new feature on CBK@CUHK that explores this topic. Also, in "A Closer Look" video, Prof. Hugh Thomas shares his candid views on the current changes in the attitude toward entrepreneurship in the Mainland. In "Hot Topics", adjunct professor of marketing Suzanne Godfrey discusses the upcoming trends in the luxury brand market in China.
Asia Pacific Accreditation Conference 2013
a Big Success

The CUHK Business School successfully hosted the Asia Pacific Accreditation Conference from 23 to 25 May, organized by the AACSB International and CUHK Business School's Marketing and Communications Office. Chaired by Dean Prof. T. J. Wong, the event attracted more than 165 teaching and administrative staff from 86 universities and 17 countries. A plenary session featuring a dialogue between Prof. Wong and Jim Thompson, chairman and founder of Crown Worldwide Group, kicked off the conference. The two discussed how business schools and business communities can form better partnerships and prepare students for successful international careers.


Faculty Outstanding Teaching Awards
Presented to Well-deserving Instructors


On 17 June, a presentation ceremony was held for recipients of the 2011-2012 Faculty Outstanding Teaching Awards. Four awards were bestowed – two for instructors of undergraduate studies and two for those teaching postgraduate studies. The two recognised for teaching excellence in undergraduate studies were Prof. Cao Jie from Finance and Dr. William Lau from Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics. Accolades for postgraduate studies went to Prof. Julie Yu from Marketing and Prof. Lee Ching-chyi from Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics. The recipients were presented with commemorative plaques from the Dean, Prof. T. J. Wong, who commended the 'well-deserving' awardees.

Undergrad Team Stands Out
at HSBC Business Case Competition
A team of four undergraduates from CUHK Business School excelled at the HSBC Asia Pacific Business Case Competition 2013, held on 5 and 6 June. The rigorous two-day competition was sponsored by HSBC and brought together students from around the region to apply their quantitative, qualitative and communication skills. From a deep field of 24 teams made up of 96 undergraduates from 12 countries, the CUHK Business School team won second runner-up and was awarded HK$10,000. The winning team featured Year-2 students Cathy Chen, Teresa Yang, Cindy Li and Sherry Tang.
