to Spotlight Four Famous Economists
The much-anticipated Global Leader Series Economic Forum will take place on 16 October at the Kowloon Shangri-La. Titled ‘The Rise of the Asian Century’, the event will kick off with an opening address by HKSARG Financial Secretary John Tsang, followed by keynote speeches by the eminent economists Liu Mingkang, Robert C. Merton and Lawrence Lau, and a panel discussion led by Fred Hu. The forum will showcase their wise insights on Asia’s economic and financial development amid China’s rising influence. Because seats are limited on a first-come, first-served basis, please register by 4 October.

Golden Jubilee Photo Collection Campaign Underway,
Promises Valuable Prizes


Now to 20 October, the photo campaign ‘Those Were the Days at CUHK Business School’ is collecting photos from alumni, students and friends. Submit your photo, along with a brief description, in either the Business School Alumni or Public categories. Judges will select the ten most memorable entries in each category, and a ‘Most Liked Entry Award’ will be given based on Facebook voting. Wonderful prizes await (see here), with some photos displayed in Cheng Yu Tung Building during Alumni Homecoming Day on 7 December. Simply upload your entries to the event website or special Facebook page.

CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association
Graciously Hosts Business School Visit

Following a successful AGM election in May, Mr. Paul Su, the new president of the CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association, kindly invited representatives of the Business School to a dinner on 9 August in Taipei. Mr. Su explained his ideas on the alumni association’s future direction while the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office’s director Florence Lai outlined the vision of its work. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the informative and fun-filled gathering featuring delicious Taiwanese cuisine. All look forward to working closely together.

CUHK Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung
Again Tops Annual Poll


Prof. Joseph Sung topped an annual telephone survey, conducted with approximately 1,200 interviewees, on the public’s perception of the performance of the vice-chancellor, president or principal of ten local institutions of higher education. Coming out ahead of HKU and HKUST, this marks the third year in a row that Prof. Sung has received the highest recognition rate among his peers. Overall, the survey also showed that CUHK placed second in public perception, consistent with last year’s results.

CUHK 50th Anniversary Banquet to Bring Alumni Together


Our golden jubilee year culminates on 8 December with the CUHK 50th Anniversary Banquet at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Grand Hall. A cocktail reception will start at 6:30pm, followed by dinner at 7:30pm. Over 3,000 students, staff, alumni and friends of the university will gather for this unprecedented reunion honouring CUHK’s accomplishments from the past half century.
