Spirited Happy Hour for MBA Programs
Strengthens Network
On 23 May, over 160 MBA students and recent graduates spent a fun-filled happy hour at Dusk till Dawn, one of Wanchai's hottest lounges. Organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, the casual gathering connected students, alumni and faculty members of the MBA Programs. All enjoyed making new friends and networking over refreshments while listening to a live band. In his welcome remarks, Prof. Michael Ferguson, Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Director of MBA Programs, thanked everyone for attending and invited feedback. Upcoming Professional Workshop Focuses on
Mediation for Workplace Conflicts
The next instalment of the Professional Workshop Series focuses on mediation, an increasingly popular way to resolve disputes in Hong Kong. Held on 9 August and titled 'Resolving Workplace Conflict by Mediation', the workshop will feature Ms. Beatrice Hung Kit May, a registered psychologist and accredited mediator. Ms. Hung will explain how workplace conflict develops and demonstrate useful mediation skills to manage workplace challenges. In view of this forward-thinking topic, the workshop will take place at 'The Collab', a state-of-the-art training facility in Wanchai whose innovative layout and relaxed environment make it a perfect venue for this special occasion. Global Leader Series Talk Now Available
A full-length video of the 15 May Global Leader Series talk delivered by Mr. Antony Leung Kam-chung, former Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, is now available. In his talk 'Thoughts on Hong Kong's Future Economy and Job Market', Mr. Leung examined economic, social and political issues, explaining how Hong Kong should leverage China's growth amid fierce competition around the world. Two Winning Teams Earn Honours at
CIMA Case Competition
Two teams from CUHK and the Business School achieved outstanding results in the regional CIMA Global Business Challenge 2014, an internationally-renowned case competition for undergraduates involving 120 teams. 'Globers' - comprising Isla Yu, Alice Kung, Cherry Yau and Kelly Wong from Global Business Studies - won first runner-up, 'Best Video', and 'Best Presentation Material'. 'CIMA Winning' - comprising Gu Mingyu, Wang Meisha, Zhang Bin and Zhang Weiming from Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science, Quantitative Finance as well as Risk Management Science - won third runner-up. Dean Prof. Vernon Hsu congratulated our teams, observing, "Their outstanding performances demonstrate our programs' high academic standards and commitment to excellence."

Tops Taiwan EMBA Golf Tournament
On 23 May, the 11th Taiwan EMBA Golf Tournament 2014 attracted 482 participants from 34 tertiary institutions, including the CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association's golf team. Competing against EMBA teachers and alumni from other institutions, the group of 13 fellow alumni offered a stellar performance, capped by Mr. Area Chen Shih-tung, the individual champion. He remarked, "I'm glad to have won a trophy for CUHK and the Business School, and I made new friends, helping them become more aware of CUHK's EMBA program." We congratulate the CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association's golfers and Mr. Chen on their exemplary efforts. Please read here.

Corporate Governance Forum Reaches Fruitful Conclusion
The Corporate Governance Forum titled 'What do you need to know about corporate governance when investing in Chinese firms?' came to a fruitful conclusion on 31 May. The forum comprised an audit partner, an independent director of listed firms, a senior i-banker, and a researcher who spoke from different perspectives on governance, transparency, and investment opportunities of Chinese listed firms. Convening 150 alumni and students, business elites, and academics from the East and West, the event was co-organised by CUHK Business School's Center for Institutions and Governance, School of Accountancy, and China Business Knowledge. Guanxi is both a prevalent and intricate concept, posing a special challenge to foreigners doing business in the Chinese market.
