Donate Your Old E-devices to Help
the Less Fortunate and the Earth!
When replacing electronic devices, why not be environmentally friendly and give them to those in need? CUHK Business School and AIA are collaborating in the 'E-device Collection Campaign' to encourage CUHK alumni, students and staff to donate their used e-devices to Caritas Computer Workshop, a non-profit organisation that erases old data and adds new software to the devices before giving them to people who need them most. Collections will take place at four CUHK locations from 27 to 30 January 2015, welcoming digital products, mobile phones, monitors and peripheral computer equipment such as converters and printers. Business School Alumni Join Hong Chi Association's Intellectually Disabled in Christmas Celebration
The Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office organised a special opportunity for alumni to do good by putting together a Christmas party for Hong Chi Association's trainees at the Siu Sai Wan Sheltered Workshop. On 6 December, 25 fellow alumni served as caring volunteers in the Christmas party to pair with 25 mildly-to-moderately intellectually disabled trainees. The fun-filled interactive program allowed each alumnus to get acquainted with and present a Christmas gift to his or her partner. Before closing, Hong Chi Association staff conducted an informative tour around the workshop, enabling alumni to better understand its daily operation and objectives. Recent EMBA (Chinese) Grads Help
Lijiang Ethnic Group Orphan School
Over 40 new graduates of the EMBA (Chinese) program attended the Master's Degree (2013-2014) Graduation Ceremony held on 22 November. The graduates' story dates to this past autumn, when more than 30 of the then-Year-2 students visited Lijiang Ethnic Group Orphan School in Yunnan province in southwest China. The remote, privately-run school is the first orphan school in China to provide nine-year education to ethnic minority students. During the school's inauguration ceremony for the autumn term, the EMBA participants touchingly presented useful stationery to the needy who were wearing new uniforms donated by the Year-2 students. MBA Students Meet Warren Buffett
Seventeen CUHK MBA students met the legendary investor Warren Buffett in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska in the U.S. for three days in late November. They were the only representatives from an Asian university among eight schools to take this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Led by Adjunct Professor Thomas R.M. Bain, the students got to interview Buffett for two hours, asking his thoughts on investing in Internet/e-commerce stocks and on what he learned from the worst business decision he had ever made. The students were also able to visit three companies in the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio. Please click here for more details.
