Stimulating ‘Scent Marketing’
Professional Workshop Held
The first professional workshop of the year, titled ‘Scent Marketing – What Does Your Brand Smell Like?’, was held on 4 February, attracting over 40 alumni of diverse backgrounds. Guest speaker Mr. Paolo Nalin, Managing Director of Hydroemission Corporation in Singapore, revealed that the use of scent is more popular and more effective today among marketers, brand managers and visual merchandisers to create longer-lasting emotional attachment with brands. Featured in Chat with Alibaba’s Jack Ma
On 2 February, in an event titled ‘An Evening with Jack Ma’ and organised by ‘Our Hong Kong Foundation’, Alibaba Group’s Founder and Executive Chairman Jack Ma encouraged some 7,000 attendees to be optimistic, persistent and positive in facing the ever-changing world. Ma then partook in a sharing forum with four young entrepreneurs, including Josie Tam, a 2011 Business School graduate of MSc in Information and Technology Management. Down Syndrome Friends to
Receive Cheerful Alumni Visitors
Alumni are invited to spend an afternoon bringing love and care to people at The Centre for People with Down Syndrome in Wanchai, associated with The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association. The centre serves people with Down syndrome according to their unique talents, traits and needs. The visit will include a range of programs and take place on 28 March, a Saturday, from 1pm to 3pm. E-device Collection Campaign Reaches Fruitful Finish

The university-wide E-device Collection Campaign held from 27 to 30 January concluded successfully. The charitable collaboration between CUHK Business School and AIA promoted awareness of e-waste recycling and green living among CUHK staff, students and alumni. The campaign entailed donating e-devices such as notebooks, mobile phones and digital cameras to Caritas Computer Workshop, a non-profit organisation that erases old data and adds new software to such devices before giving them to people who need them most. Four strategic collection points were set up. In total, 455 recyclable e-devices were collected. Please read here.

Shenzhen Alumni Network Launches with Forum
The newly established Shenzhen Alumni Network organised its inaugural gathering on 24 January to engage business alumni to discuss market trends in internet finance. Themed ‘Internet Finance Forum: Who Will Lead the Future of China Financial Industry?’, the event drew over 50 alumni from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and other cities in Guangdong Province. Five industry leaders joined a forum to exchange views and share their respective experiences in P2P, mobile payment, financial products and private equity investments. Talks at EMBA Alumni Association
The CUHK EMBA Alumni Association convened the first speaking event of its Roundtable Series on 27 January at the Hong Kong Bankers Club, attracting 40 EMBA alumni from various sectors and industries. The association was honoured to have the Ex-Chief Justice of HKSAR the Hon. Andrew Li Kwok-nang, GBM, JP, deliver the Roundtable Series’ inaugural talk. Addressing the topic ‘The Rule of Law’, Mr. Li differentiated between ‘rule of law’ and ‘rule by law’ and noted that mediation is increasingly popular to resolve legal disputes.

Ontario Alumni Network Organises Useful Lunches

The Ontario Alumni Network held lunch gatherings on 15 November and 17 January to connect fellow alumni in Toronto. Each occasion attracted over 30 alumni and their spouses, and most of the attendees were graduates of the CUHK Business School and the Department of Economics. At the November event, Mr. Steve Ng (1971 MBA) and Mr. Maurice Kwok (1988 MBA) talked about real estate in greater Toronto. The January gathering focused on the insurance business and featured Ms. Yonny Ko and Mr. Daniel Chui (2001 MBA). Please click here to read more and view the photos.
