Draws Business School Stakeholders
The CUHK Business School hosted a Spring Cocktail on 12 March at the ballroom of JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong to celebrate the Lunar New Year with over 160 alumni and friends from academic, business and political circles. Dean Prof. Kalok Chan welcomed the attendees and explained a few major initiatives, including enhancement of our research and teaching excellence as well as our international rankings. Alumni Stories Debuts with
Profile of Katie Sham, BBA 2011
'Alumni Stories' is a new monthly column on our Alumni Website profiling accomplished Business School alumni. The first story features Katie Sham (BBA 2011) and here is an excerpt: Fearless, upbeat, sociable and chatty, Katie described her 3-year Global Business Studies curriculum as 'plenty of fun' during which she 'learned a lot'. In her first year, she participated with three classmates in the Global Business Challenge hosted by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Katie's team bested 120 teams in Hong Kong's regional final, then defeated seven national champions to win the global title. "This competition tests your ability to turn around a company and make a profit, and that's what I'm doing in my career," she said. Read more here.
Simulated Refugee Experience Enriches Alumni
On 28 February, Business School alumni and students took part in a special 'Refugee Run' at the Crossroads Global Village in Tuen Mun. The outing was hosted by the Crossroads Foundation to demonstrate the real-life struggles that millions face. In the 45-minute simulation, alumni and students were confined in a refugee camp setting where they had to suffer the pressures of poverty, hunger, ethnic conflict, inequality and other challenges. MBA Mentors and Mentees
Ring in Lunar New Year Together
The MBA program's annual Chinese New Year dinner gathered over 100 mentors and mentees of the MBA Elite Mentorship Program on 27 February. In his welcome address, CUHK Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan spoke enthusiastically of the fact that the full-time MBA Program ranked 30th globally in The Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2015. He also noted that the MBA Program will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year thanks to the tremendous support of the mentors, past and present, who contributed to the MBA's outstanding history. Global Business Forum Focuses on
'Innovation in Turbulent Times'
CUHK Business School hosted the Global Business Forum 2015 on 1 March to mark the tenth anniversary of Global Business Studies (GBS) and the fifth anniversary of the International Business and Chinese Enterprise undergraduate programs. Themed on 'Innovation in Turbulent Times', the forum was attended by over 130 guests, including keynote speaker HKSAR Government's Financial Secretary Mr. John Tsang, CUHK Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung, and Dean Prof. Kalok Chan. Commenting on the event's theme, GBS Director Dr. John Lai observed, "Innovation has been recognised as a way to perpetuate organisational profitability and growth in a complex and unpredictable environment." BBA Alumni Association Council Members
Visit CUHK (Shenzhen) for First Time
On 31 January, BBA Alumni Association organised the first visit for its council members to CUHK (Shenzhen). The 10-member delegation toured various campus facilities and learned from the President Prof. Yangsheng Xu the future plans for development. In addition, the delegation hosted a career talk on investment banking and the financial industry, which was well-received by some 260 Year-1 students from the School of Management and Economics. Fruitful and Rewarding Career Trek
Enjoyed in Singapore
Organised by the Task Force of the CUHK MBA Asia Business Club from 28 to 30 January and supported by the Career Management Center, our inaugural Singapore Career Trek 2015 successfully connected 19 MBA students with eight diverse organisations, including Bloomberg, BNP Paribas, CIALFO, Citi, Cognizant, Mapletree, Microsoft and OCBC. It provided interactive platforms for our students to explore career opportunities, understand the working environment and build a useful network with local hiring managers, alumni, headhunters as well as peer MBA students from various schools in Singapore.
