Spread Love at Helping Hand’s Elderly Care Home
Senior citizens are entitled to respect and dignity after years of contributing to society. In partnership with ‘Helping Hand’, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office will organise a visit on Saturday 22 August to the ‘Father Sean Burke Care Home for the Elderly’, featuring games, tea time and a leisurely trip through the care home garden. We need 25 alumni volunteers, who are each requested to prepare a gift worth HK$50 or less for a care home resident. Spaces are on a first-come, first-served basis! Read more here or register here.

Decorated Businesswoman Shares her Passion
for Serving Community and Culture
This month’s ‘Alumni Stories’ features successful businesswoman and social spirit Susanna Chiu (EMBA 1997), director of Li & Fung Development (China) Limited and the first — and only — female president of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (2013-2014). In the 1980s and 90s Susanna studied and worked in Britain, where she helped female Chinese emigrants integrate into society. In 1997 Susanna moved back to Hong Kong, continuing to devote her free time to sowing the seeds of happiness through social services. She has received many awards, including the HKSARG’s Medal of Honour. Inspired by her childhood dream to spread happiness to all, she has followed her heart throughout her career! Shanghai Alumni Welcome CUHK Delegation

On 15 June, the CUHK Shanghai Alumni Association and CUHK Business School Shanghai Alumni Association hosted a banquet for a delegation from CUHK at the Shanghai Jade Link Hotel. There, CUHK Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung showcased CUHK’s projects and upcoming plans to over 150 alumni: expanding the eLearning platform, deepening collaboration with the government, academics and the business community, and extending research ties with universities on the Mainland. It also marked the first large-scale meeting between the Dean of the CUHK Business School Prof. Kalok Chan and Shanghai’s business alumni.

Teaching Awards Announced
Honoured this year were Prof. Thomas Bain, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Finance; Prof. Kay Lo Hei Rose, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance; Prof. Ng Cheuk Yin Andrew, Associate Professor of Practice in Actuarial Science and Director of the Insurance, Finance and Actuarial Analysis Program; and Dr. Lai Hon Weng John, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management and Director of Global Business Programs. Each awardee will receive a professional allowance of HK$10,000 and a commemorative plaque.

EMBA (Chinese) Team Embraces the Gobi Challenge
For the first time in history, a CUHK team, formed by eight alumni and students of the EMBA (Chinese) Program, participated in this year’s ‘Xuan Zang Road’ International Business School Gobi Challenge. Along with over 1,800 other contestants from 43 business schools throughout Asia, the team trekked across 112 kilometres of the Gobi Desert from 22 to 25 May in a test of speed, courage, teamwork, and physical and mental endurance. Learning About Social Media from Renowned Industry Gurus
The EMBA Alumni Association organised a social media marketing workshop on 22 May, held at the Garage Society in Central. With the topic ‘What's Hot and What's Not?’, over 40 EMBA alumni and students gathered to learn about the power of social media from two industry gurus ― Mr. Vincent Tsui, Chief Marketing Officer of Next Media, and Mr. Rudi Leung, a partner at Turn+. Alumni Connect at a Luncheon in Ontario

On 6 June, CUHK and Business School alumni gathered for lunch at the Tasty BBQ and Seafood Restaurant in Toronto, organised by the Ontario Alumni Network. CUHK alumni Ms. Florence Yeung, Mr. Gilbert Wan, Mr. Edwin Lo and Mr. Philip Chan, all public relations and career consulting experts, spoke about the job market in Hong Kong and Mainland China, and shared insights on the opportunities and challenges that children of emigrant Hong Kong families will face when they return to Hong Kong.
