Monkey Business is on the Cards
Chinese New Year will soon be upon us. As usual, we send a card to our alumni to wish them health, wealth, and happiness for the year ahead. For 2016, however, we are offering three Year of the Monkey card designs, each with a different theme. Two of these are particularly meaningful because they have been created by the inspiring children from the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association, our long-term partner. Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, remarked: “We hope this initiative can draw awareness to the special talents of people with Down syndrome.” Click here to read more and view each wonderful design.

Steady Wins the Race

Since graduating, Eric Hui (BBA 1989, MBA 1999), Chief Executive Officer of General Insurance, Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong), has devoted his career to a single global corporation. He rose through the ranks from a management trainee to CEO in charge of the company’s Hong Kong branch. To the young people thinking of changing to a new job, he urges careful deliberation: “Do not be lured by several thousand dollars of additional salary or be misguided by a fancy title. Ask yourself if there is any potential to grow your career before you make the move.” Read more here, or click here to view Eric’s video message.
50 Reasons to Celebrate!
This year, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our renowned MBA programs. With a range of scheduled events that embody the theme ‘Embrace our Past • Envision our Future’, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to. As well as inspiring talks and networking, a full-day international conference held this fall will be our signature event of the year, followed by a gala dinner in December. Besides this, a large-scale media advertising campaign has been scheduled throughout the year. That’s why you shouldn't be surprised if you have seen our eye-catching golden jubilee celebratory advertisements on airport digital panels and on tram exteriors over the past few weeks.

Racing against Want
The ‘RBC Race for the Kids Hong Kong 2015’ charity event was a resounding success, with a record-breaking attendance of over 2,600 participants. Held at the end of November last year and featuring a team of enthusiastic athletes from the Business School, there were three races in which competitors could take part, which raised a total of HK$1.2 million to help children experiencing poverty in our city. Putting Global Economic Initiatives into Perspective
Last December, the BBA Alumni Association and the Alumni Association of Postgraduates in Economics of the CUHK organised two seminars with economic experts from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, namely Mr. Daniel Poon, Principal Economist (Global Research), and Mr. Nicholas Kwan, Research Director. The two areas covered were China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative to create stronger global trade links, and the ‘Trans-Pacific Partnership’, both of which will have significant impact on Hong Kong and the rest of the world. Read more about these fascinating topics here.

Bringing Warmth and Support to the Elderly
During the festive period, a group of EMBA volunteers from the ‘Run to Your Home’ charity organised a Christmas party for elderly people, held at the Caritas Centre in Sham Shui Po. The theme was ‘Old-fashion Style’ and the participants were thrilled to meet film stars from the 1960s and 70s, as well as enjoy Cantonese opera and musical performances, play games, and eat a delicious brunch buffet. Check out some heart-warming photos and find out what happened at this special party here.
