Making a Splash at Ocean Park
On Wednesday, 18 May, the ‘Business Leaders Series’ will feature Mr. Tom Mehrmann, Chief Executive of Ocean Park Corporation. Originally from the US, Mr. Mehrmann worked his way up for almost four decades, starting as a sweeper and becoming chief of Hong Kong’s pre-eminent marine life and animal theme park. During the talk, titled ‘Trends That Are Shaping the Theme Park Industry’, this talented leader will discuss key global trends and how they impact Ocean Park as it adapts to the changing face of tourism. Discovering Style

Don't miss the chance to join ‘Grooming and Image Styling for Business Executives’, a useful and interesting personal styling workshop. The event takes place Saturday, 7 May at DiVino Patio in Wan Chai and will be hosted by Ms. Caroline Sze, an image consultant. During the 2-hour interactive workshop, Ms. Sze will discuss and demonstrate balancing a professional appearance with personal style to improve self-confidence. The (Wine) Glass Is Half Full
When you see a glass that’s half-full, do you feel motivated or frustrated? Crystal Chan (BBA 2010) is definitely the former and has turned a passion for fine wine into a growing career. After working in marketing, she decided to follow her heart and opened a wine gallery in Hong Kong, attracting new customers with tasting classes. Over the years, Crystal worked hard to expand her business and moved into wine and food pairing, which inspired her first book, The Sommelier’s Kitchen. Looking back, she discusses learning from her mistakes, taking risks and making the most of every opportunity. Taking the Lead for Animal Welfare
Twenty Business School alumni visited Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) Tai Po Homing Centre on 19 March for a meaningful day. An HKDR volunteer spoke about the organisation, pet adoption and how to communicate with dogs. Afterwards, alumni took their furry friends for a walk along a country trail before enjoying a relaxed dim-sum lunch on campus. Ms. Florence Lai, Business School’s Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, remarked, “It was our first time organising an alumni activity benefiting animals, and I was grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response.” Click here to view the article, highlight video and photo album.

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will host the 10th CUHK MBA CSR Conference on Friday, 20 May. Alumni Gather in Beijing
The CUHK Beijing-Tianjin Alumni Association held its annual dinner on Saturday, 26 March. Over 120 alumni attended and VIP guests travelled from Hong Kong to Beijing for the event, including Mr. Anthony Yuen, a Standing Committee member of the CUHK Convocation, Mr. Daniel Cheng, Director of the CUHK Alumni Affairs Office, and Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director of CUHK Business School. Alumni spent the evening connecting with new and old friends and enjoyed a wonderful performance by BBA graduate Mr. Steve Lau, who sang with his band. Alumni Inspired by Classical Chinese Literature
Organised by the BBA Alumni Association, the “Traditional Chinese Scholarship as Today’s Reference” lecture series began with two seminars in February and March. Mr. Jonathan Chan, a finance investment manager, led the event, titled ‘Study on Zhou Yi: from Number, Image to Reasoning’, using his unique analytical approach. Mr. Chan provided an enlightening view of one of classical Chinese literature’s greatest works, with a special focus on the concept of Yin and Yang.
