Ocean Park Chief the Star of New Speaker Series
On 18 May, Mr. Tom Mehrmann, Chief Executive of Ocean Park, served as the first speaker in the new ‘Business Leaders Series’. Over last four decades, the theme park tycoon has ascended from his first role as a janitor to top management positions. A full house, comprising 150 students, alumni and faculty members, listened to him discuss 10 global trends shaping the theme park industry and Ocean Park’s strategic planning as it adapts to the rapidly-changing tourism landscape. Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan said, “Through his charisma, the audience learned much about true leadership, as well as from his personal insights into the tourism industry.” Click here to read the report and view the photos.
Marking 50 Wonderful Years
Celebrate our MBA’s 50th anniversary at the ‘CUHK Business School Conference’, which takes place on Friday, 9 September at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. It will feature a range of top-notch speakers from the government, academia and the business world, who will discuss the theme ‘China Business in the Global Economy’. We are honoured to have the Hon. A Day Out for a Good Cause

In partnership with the DS Centre, the Centre for People with Down Syndrome, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office is organising a trip to the CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change on Saturday, 16 July. We are looking for 20 alumni volunteers to help with this special outing to support people in need, and we will all learn about environmentally friendly living. Afterwards, participants will enjoy a walk around Lake Ad Excellentiam and a casual lunch. Read more here, or click here to register.
Happy Hour and Fond Farewells
More than 120 MBA alumni and students gathered at Azure Restaurant and Slash Bar for a happy hour event on 11 May. The gathering also served as a chance to say goodbye to Prof. Michael Ferguson, Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Director of MBA Programs, and to welcome his successor, Ms. Stephanie Villemagne. Guests had a wonderful time mingling at the event and enjoyed the fabulously delicious and beautiful cupcakes, tailor-made for the celebration. MBA Entrepreneur Pursues Success Without Borders

Aaron Weithaeuser has lived life to the full since graduating with an MBA in 2009. In just a few short years, he has founded five start-ups across B2B wholesaling, e-commerce and real estate, and married the love of his life, who was his fellow classmate. In the interview, Aaron talks about his career, the importance of making local contacts when working abroad, and having an open mind when experiencing new cultures. Farewell to a Special Professor
To say goodbye to Prof. Mun Kin Chok, over 80 EMBA alumni gathered for a dinner celebration on 1 June. Everyone in attendance had graduated within the last two decades since the EMBA Program was founded by Prof. Mun, and many were formerly his students. Over the years, Prof. Mun has received many honours for his work and his dedication to teaching. He will spend his retirement with his family in the United Kingdom. Of course, he will be greatly missed in Hong Kong.

Looking at the Future of China
On 25 May, Mr. Tse Kwok Leung, Head of Policy and Economic Research at the Bank of China, conducted a seminar titled ‘National 13th Five-Year Plan and the Prospect of China’ at the MBA Town Centre. The event was co-organised by BBA Alumni Association and the Alumni Association of Postgraduates in Economics of CUHK, as part of the ongoing 'Global Economic Affairs Talk Series'. Over 60 alumni learned about the impact of economic reforms in mainland China and how they might affect Hong Kong. Please read here.
Dinner Celebrates 20 Years at CUHK Business School
The MBA Alumni Association held a valedictory dinner for Prof. Michael Ferguson, Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Director of MBA Programs, on 13 May. The event took place at the Hong Kong Jockey Club and allowed MBA alumni to say goodbye to Prof. Ferguson and thank him for his contribution to the Business School over the last 20 years. Many happy memories were made and Prof. Ferguson told the guests he looked forward to meeting at future events. Please read more details here.
Putting the Focus on Social Responsibility
Led and run by our MBA students, the 10th CUHK MBA Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Conference took place on 20 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This gathering provides a setting in which to debate and share best practices in corporate social responsibility, inspiring the business leaders to care for their communities and the world. This year’s theme was “Ten-years’ Responsible Business  CSR as Our DNA” and the event was regarded as the longest running commitment by students to CSR in the Asia-Pacific region.
