Compelling Debates at the CUHK Business School Conference

On 9 September, almost 500 guests gathered to discuss “China Business in the Global Economy” at the CUHK Business School Conference commemorating the MBA’s 50th Anniversary. Speakers deliberated over Hong Kong’s role in the development of China, and discussed topics such as tech innovation, new trends in financial services, as well as the opportunities and challenges presented by the fast-changing global economy. The significant role of education in developing global business leaders was brought to light, and the Business School is grateful for the valuable support of our event sponsors. Marketing Strategy Insights from Google Hong Kong
Over 50 Business School alumni eagerly participated in Google Hong Kong’s workshop, “Seizing Business Opportunities with Google’s Marketing Strategies” on 9 August. Presented by Mr. Eddie Chu, Data Analyst of Madcradle Online Ltd, and Ms. Mandy Law, Strategic Partner Manager of Google Inc., the workshop illustrated the power of technology in marketing strategies. “We are pleased with the overwhelming response and look forward to more collaboration with Google,” said Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director. Soaring to Sky-High Success
Sherman Luk graduated in 2005 with a BBA in Hotel and Tourism Management. Aviation has been his passion since he was young, and his studies prepared him well for a successful career in airline management. Sherman started as a management trainee for Dragonair and is now the General Manager of Asia Pacific for Hong Kong Express Airways. “Life is a journey. A Gala Dinner to Celebrate 50 Years of MBA Programs
To celebrate the success stories of the past 50 years, the MBA 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner will take place on Sunday, 4 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, open to all Business School alumni. With Chairman of Pacific Century Group Mr. Richard Li as the guest of honour, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung as the officiating guest, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to celebrate with friends, old and new. A Welcoming Ceremony for the New Class of 2018

Welcoming over 100 guests, the MBA Opening Ceremony for the Class of 2018 was hosted by Ms. Stephanie Villemagne, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Director of MBA Programs on 19 August. The speech from Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan inspired students to contribute to “building a better world.” Senior alumna Ms. Eirene Yeung of Cheung Kong Property Holdings Ltd. reminded everyone that, “We all can make a difference!” Participants had the opportunity to share their goals and snap a group photo to conclude the ceremony.

Sharing the Mid-Autumn Festival Cheer
As part of the Mid-Autumn festivities, 30 alumni and their families spent a meaningful weekend visiting the elderly residents of Sha Kok Estate in Shatin on 3 September. The volunteers valued this opportunity to bring gifts, joy and laughter to senior citizens during the festive season. The event was organised by the BBA Alumni Association and its president Mr. Raymond Lo thanked the alumni for partnering with the Wilson T.S. Wang District Elderly Community Centre, adding, “We will continue to organise various activities to engage our enthusiastic alumni.” Find out more here.

The Effectiveness of Personality Profiling Revealed
“B.A.N.K. CODE” was the hot topic for the EMBA Alumni Association on 22 August, led by Ms. Véronique Ficheux, business advisor, consultant and coach. This personality profiling system is designed to accelerate negotiations and sales by identifying prospects as one of four personality types. Leveraging this to understand buying behaviour can effectively increase sales, and “enhance our problem-solving and communication skills,” noted Vice President of EMBA Alumni Association, Mr. Andy Ann. New Faculty Members Welcomed to CUHK Business School
An orientation was held on 2 September to welcome 15 new faculty members to the CUHK Business School. The group includes 13 assistant professors, one professional consultant and one lecturer. Informative presentations by senior management were followed by a luncheon with faculty members from the School of Management and Economics of CUHK (Shenzhen). Staff from both Schools enjoyed sharing ideas and experiences across the two campuses. The orientation drew to a close with a Q&A and discussion session.
