Professional Workshop Focuses on Millennials

Known as Generation Y or the Net Generation, millennials play a vital role in determining the success of a business. With their unique tastes, interests and demands, millennials can be difficult to reach and connect with, but those who succeed in attracting them will reap the rewards. During a workshop on Tuesday, 7 March, the latest in a series organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, participants will learn to create an environment millennials find irresistible. Newly-formed Shenzhen Alumni Association Holds First Event
The newly-formed Shenzhen Alumni Association held its inaugural gathering in December 2016. Around 100 alumni from Shenzhen and Hong Kong attended the forum and dinner, which featured three prominent Business School speakers: Prof. Wilton Chau, Chairman of the Pan-Asia Venture Development Platform; Prof. Ma Xufei, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship; and Prof. Liu Ming, Special Advisor of the Shenzhen Alumni Association and Director of the MBA Program in Finance. Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director Ms. Florence Lai welcomed the new member to the alumni family and remarked, “I look forward to working closely with the Shenzhen Alumni Association in building a stronger alumni network in the Pearl River Delta.” Please click here for more details.
Alumni Help Seniors Welcome the Year of the Rooster
On Saturday, 14 January, alumni volunteers cleaned the homes of elderly Shamshuipo residents, helping them welcome the Year of the Rooster. The activity was organised through a partnership with the charitable organisation Sik Sik Yuen and the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office. The volunteers met at the Ho Kin District Community Centre for Senior Citizens before visiting local homes, where they tidied up and presented residents with gift bags. Embracing Change to Achieve Success
Howard Lam (BSc in Computer Science 1986, MBA 1988, and PhD in Marketing 2000) has risen from humble beginnings to become a pioneer in marketing. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, he pursued an MBA and established a rewarding career with multinational corporations like McDonald’s and Coca-Cola. In recent years, Howard published a best-selling book and became a professor and associate director of the EMBA Program, working with tomorrow’s leaders. He is now focusing on OnePersonalisation, which sells bespoke footwear, and believes flexibility and innovation are vital to his success. Join a Day of Volunteering with the Elderly

On Sunday, 12 March, join the Elderly Visit and Lunch Gathering organised by the Ho Kin District Community Centre for Senior Citizens, which is sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen. The event is a great way to help those in need while bonding with fellow alumni. After visiting the homes of senior citizens living in Shamshuipo, participants will enjoy a luncheon which includes a ceremony recognising the contributions of the elderly volunteers. Read more here.
Beijing Dinner Brings Alumni Together
On 8 January, the night before the 2016 State Science and Technology Awards, the CUHK Beijing-Tianjin Alumni Association and the MBA Program in Finance co-hosted a dinner at The Peninsula Beijing. The gathering honoured the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Sung, who led a delegation of medical professors to the awards. Run to Your Home Celebrates with Seniors
Alumni volunteers from the non-profit organisation Run to Your Home held a party honouring senior citizens in December 2016 and another for Chinese New Year in February. Founded by EMBA graduates, the charity promotes social harmony and strives to spread positive energy throughout Hong Kong. The recent events featured various activities, including crafts, games, Cantonese opera and a musical performance by the volunteers' children, providing senior citizens a welcome opportunity to socialise and enjoy the spirited festivities. Alumna Recognised by Forbes
Global Business Studies (GBS) graduate Bonnie Chiu recently made Forbes' list of 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneurs in Europe. Bonnie is the co-founder and CEO of Lensational, a charity which empowers women through photography. Since 2013, it has trained over 400 marginalised women in 15 countries. Additionally, Bonnie is Managing Director at The Social Investment Consultancy and is completing a master's degree at the London School of Economics. Read more here.
